Wednesday, November 4, 2020 - FDRSP – High Falls State Park

There is time this morning for a cup of coffee while sitting in the rockers on the screened-in front porch.  It’s cool and clear and there are trees everywhere you look.  So calming after last night!

Everyone finds something for breakfast and packs a little snack for the road and after a leisurely start we head for High Falls State Park, about an hour and a half away.

It’s an uneventful drive, filled with laughter and stories and a continuing discussion about the election and the future of the country.

High Falls is on the Towaliga River, which cascades over a bedrock of High Falls Granite.  We stop at the Visitors’ Center for directions to the hiking trail and we’re off.  The path follows the river past a series of cascades roaring their presence.  The four of us make our way for quite a while until Marilyn and Connie decide to head back to the car while Ginger and I continue onward for a while longer.  At one point a white blur charges by, startling us both!  It turns out to be an adorable dog who is heading for the water.  We’d seen him before with his two humans and they are so apologetic for his behavior.  There was no need; he’s a cutie and we enjoy watching him frolic in the river.

Finally it’s time to return to the park where we find a picnic table and enjoy our snacks.  A couple of motorcycles pull into the parking lot and Marilyn goes to chat with the bikers.

It’s time to head home with a stop at Ingles, a very upscale grocery store for feta cheese and raisins for Ginger’s Couscous a la Ginger.  And there’s a stop for a photo op that Connie had spotted on the way to the park.

We get home and Ginger makes dinner, as it is her turn in the barrel.  Her meal is delicious and we scarf down every bit of it!  When the dishes are washed and the kitchen clean Ginger makes a fire and we look for something interesting on TV, after checking the election results one more time.   Connie and Ginger also sample one of the cocktails from the Tampa’s SpiritsFest, to mixed reviews.

When that proves hopeless we decide to introduce Connie to Rummikub,  a fun game that Ginger and Marilyn both enjoy immensely  (because they’re really good at it!).  Three rounds later and it is time for one last check on the election and bed. Tomorrow we’ll poke around in some of the little towns nearby and have dinner at the Country Store, just in time for sunset, we hope!
