Friday – November 6, 2020 – FDRSP to Tampa

Sigh, it’s time to return to reality.  I restore the couch to its upright position and we make our last breakfast, wash the dishes, dry them and put them away.  The beds are all stripped and the linens safely stowed in the big laundry bag and we think we’ve followed all the directions for leaving the cabin as we found it.  

There’s a dumpster on the way to the office and Ginger and I take care of the garbage and we all reconvene at the office to turn in the key and make a couple of comments, like the oddness with the microwave timer light and the roaches that appeared last night.  We take one last look at the beautiful view and then it really is time to head home.  Ginger will be going north to Marietta and we are heading south. 

It's a little late;  but we finally get some color!

how tall the robbers were!


Clear skies are a plus on a road trip!

 We’re so far out in the boonies that WAZE can’t find us and it’s a while before we finally get some directions home.  There is a tour through a couple of small towns and after an hour or so we are on I-75 and know where to go without assistance!

A rainbow is always a good sign!

Connie has packed delicious sandwiches for all of us!  We decide to take a lunch and comfort break at a Dairy Queen.  There are outside tables and we don’t see any other people while we’re eating, so we feel completely safe.

Sometimes it's just fun to play around with reality!


We almost made it home before sunset!

The time passes easily and before we know it, Marilyn is pulling into her driveway.  We transfer our goodies into both my car and Connie’s including dividing up the wine, so that after we get back to my house, she can hit the road running to get home to Rascal. It’s been a lovely escape from the reality of Covid-19;  but it’s also good to get home and be greeted by the resident felines, all of whom are demanding the amount of loving to which they have become accustomed!  Tomorrow Stu and Amanda will visit and help me get Blogger to behave.  It’s good to have tech support!

This morning we’ll treat ourselves to another batch of scrambled eggs with as many veggies as we can use up, since we’ll be leaving tomorrow morning and we’re planning on having dinner out this evening.   Eventually we head out with a plan to explore the little towns near by, Pine Mountain and Warm Springs.  We decide that Warm Springs looks more promising and, indeed, there are lots of little shops to poke around in!  Marilyn visits the TI and meets Louise, who is 92 and shares lots of information, like the location of the Red Oak Covered Bridge, and a recommendation to visit the Switch and Grind Coffee Café. Our favorite shop, The Bluebird Cottage, has only locally produced items made from American components.  We chat a long time with the owners and each make more than one trip to the cash register, since everyone checks out everyone else’s purchases to see what we’ve missed! Tuesday, November 3, 2020 - FDRSP Sunrise, Dowdell Knob, FDR’s Little White House, Sunset

Marilyn wiggles my toes at 6:30 and we throw on some clothes and drive off for sunrise.  We need to get through the park gate, which doesn’t open until 7:00 and are happy to find that it will let us out, and we know it will be after seven when we return.   We have scoped out an area behind the Visitors’ Center and manage to get a few decent shots, even though there are no clouds to add texture or refract the sun’s rays. We get home and find that Connie is already up.  She was just about to start our coffee and I step in so that she can make her own.  We three decide that today is a good day for scrambled eggs with cheese and lots of veggies and sausage patties and banana muffins!  Connie chops up all the veggies, I beat up the eggs, and then we go on hiatus until Ginger makes her appearance.  We had just decided to begin cooking when she joins us.  Marilyn scrambles the eggs and we’re ready to feed our faces with a big and glorious breakfast to hold us until dinner!
